Every April in Thailand is a holiday called Songkran which commemorates the Thai new year. It’s a celebration of water which coincides nicely with April, being the hottest month of the year.
I was in Thailand this year for Songkran and took the opportunity to have a photoshoot with a beautiful friend of mine named Fern. She was working as a waitress at the time of the shoot, but took several breaks throughout the day to get some shots in.
All of these photos were shot with a Nikon D750 camera and 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. Most shots were taken with an aperture of f/4, which I find to be this lens’ sweet spot as far as sharpness is concerned, and still allowed me to keep the background out of focus.
Key to getting some of the great outdoor shots were to have Fern stand underneath an umbrella to keep her out of the direct sunlight. There were enough light surfaces around that reflected light back onto her, so that a reflector was not required. I would have preferred to get some of these shots in the early morning or late afternoon but wasn’t possible with the schedule we were on.
